The Parks Planning & Development Division helps create and implement the vision for Kent's parks, trails and open spaces. We design and manage large construction projects and capital improvements, play equipment installation and replacement, and park and trail landscape design. We also work to acquire new land to preserve for public use and re-invest in Kent's existing park and trail system.

Kent Parks StoryMap

The 2022 Parks and Open Space Plan establishes a vision for our park system that responds to the needs of the diverse population of Kent today and into the future. A primary object of this plan is to establish a baseline of geospatial mapping and analysis through information layering and a scoring system based on park access, quality and quantity of amenities, and equity metrics to reveal patterns and deficiencies that can guide planning and priorities. The goal is to identify high-need areas for future park investments and form a ranked list of existing park properties that have the highest potential impact on access and equity.

This powerful geospatial mapping tool helped establish four key goals tied to nine distinct outcomes which are utilized to prioritize strategic projects. Over the next six years, the maps will be updated to show progress as projects are completed and new ones are identified.
