The City's Sanitary Sewer System is designed only for sewer disposal. Sewage is the used water that enters the system via sinks, toilets, showers, washing machines and other fixtures that are permitted to flow into the City of Kent’s sewer system. Unlike many systems across the United States where the storm systems and sanitary sewer systems are combined, the City of Kent’s drainage and sewer systems are separate. A sanitary sewer system is one that doesn't allow any other type of collection. This includes surface or storm water drainage, or connection of on-site surface drainage systems to the sewer lines. Every effort is made through ongoing system maintenance to keep the sewer system 'sanitary'.
