Step 1 - Schedule an intake processing date (if needed)

All permits are processed electronically, either via the permitting portal or scheduled intake processing date.

Permits for the below project types are now being processed via our new permitting portal without the need to schedule an intake processing date. Please click on the following link to move forward: Permitting Portal. Instructions on how to navigate the Portal may be found here.

*For Site-Specific permits related to Registered Plan/Basic permits that were not originally issued via the permitting portal please email permitcenter@kentwa.gov for assistance with the permit submittal(s).

Step 3 - Get Your Permit 

Pay Permit Fees

  • Intake Fees: These fees will be billed at the conclusion of your successful intake processing. A fee invoice will be provided, and payment will be required before Permit Review can start. All intake fees must be paid within 15 days or the application will be cancelled.
  • Issuance Fees: Once Permit Review has been completed, you will receive a new fee invoice with the remaining balance due. All remaining fees must be paid prior to your permit being issued.

Check Drop Off

Located in the back of the parking lot between City Hall and the Centennial Building. The box is designated for utility payments. Permit payments are currently being accepted at this location.

Visa and MasterCard

Call 253-856-5201 between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m., Monday – Friday. Have your permit IVR number ready to make payment. This is located in the upper right-hand corner of the fee listing.

Please note:

  • A 2.65% Processing Fee will be added to all credit and debit card transactions
  • Maximum payment amount is limited to $99,999

Pay In-Person

Find the Customer Service Finance Counter, located on the first floor of the Centennial Center, at:

Customer Service is open Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Permits will still be issued electronically via email.

Find a Contractor

You will need a contractor with a valid Washington State business license.

Contractors working inside Kent city limits are required to obtain a City of Kent business license. Business licenses may be applied for using this link: https://www.filelocal-wa.gov/

Getting Your Permit

Your permit and associated approved documents will be provided electronically when we confirm that:

  • The permit fees are paid
  • The contractor's license is valid
