Innovation is where knowledge and creativity meet, and it is fundamental to who we are in Kent.  It thrives here because we expect it of ourselves and of each other.  It is part of our DNA and one of the most important qualities we seek in new members of our team. New ideas rooted in a deep understanding and appreciation of our common goals, supported by our leadership, is the norm unlike any place I have ever worked. Our people do not challenge the status quo merely for the sake of challenge, they are intrinsically driven to be creative and to find a better way.

At the City of Kent, communication is evident in our open dialogue and active listening. I know that my ideas and thoughts are welcomed amongst my team and within the department. Every staff member within the organization has the opportunity to influence change. We take the time to acknowledge employee achievements through Employee of the Month and Employee of the Year awards. We honor these employee at a very festive event we call the Mayor’s Breakfast. It is energizing to hear so many wonderful success stories happening within the City of Kent.
