At the City of Kent we take great pride in our benefit offerings. We believe our benefits are an important way we can demonstrate our commitment to you—your total rewards include highly competitive medical coverage, contributions towards your retirement, generous time off, and a warm, inviting culture.

Medical Benefits: 

Benefited employees are eligible for medical benefits immediately at hire. We offer medical plan choices through both Premera and Kaiser Permanente (HMO), with several plans covering 100% of the premiums for the employee. The City covers a significant portion of dependent costs, enabling you to enroll your entire family at little to no cost. Our comprehensive benefit guide will walk you through our plans in detail.

 

Health Savings Account: 

Employees enrolled in the Premera Consumer’s Choice Plan, may be eligible for a pre-tax Health Savings Account (HSA). You may use your HSA to pay for IRS approved healthcare expenses. The City of Kent contributes $1,500 to this account on an annual basis.

 

Flexible Spending Accounts: 

Benefited employee can enroll in the Health Care FSA and Dependent Care FSA to set money aside on a pretax basis and pay for IRS approved expenses.

 

Dental Coverage: 

Our dental program offers a low deductible plan, with 100% coverage towards preventative services, along with a generous maximum—orthodontia services covered as well!

 

Vision Coverage: 

Your voluntary vision program through VSP includes benefits for routine eye exams and vision hardware. Coverage includes free exams, low copays, with a generous allowance on frames, and lenses covered at 100% after your co-pay.

 

Life & LTD Insurance: 

For your peace of mind, all regular benefited employees are automatically enrolled in Basic Life and AD&D (Accidental Death & Dismemberment) coverage through New York Life Group Benefit Solutions. This benefit is provided at no cost to you for coverage calculated at one times your base salary up to a maximum of $150,000. The City also offers company-paid Long-Term Disability.

 

Employee Pension: 

The City of Kent participates in the Washington State Department of Retirement Systems program. Benefited employees receive employer contributions based on plan elections. Participation is mandatory and our team will walk you through your options at hire.

 

Deferred Compensation Plan: 

Employees can make contributions to a 457 plan on a pretax or post tax basis up to the annual IRS limit or can participate in the Roth IRA plan.

 

Wellness Platform: 

The City has partnered with Vitality, a leading wellness program provider to extend benefited employees the opportunity to participate in health-related activities and City led wellness challenges offering prizes and incentives to include an extra day off.

 

Mental Health Resources: 

Supporting the mental health of our employees is a priority at the City. Our Employee Assistance programs provide behavioral health coaching, psychiatry, and self-care resources, with in person and virtual options in support of you and your family.

 

Holidays: 

Regular, benefited employees are eligible for 11 paid federal holidays and 2 additonal personal holidays. All bargaining unit employees should refer to their individual contract to confirm their holiday schedule. This is in addition to generous annual and sick leave, provided to each benefited hire.

 

Employee Training: 

City-Wide training is available to all fulltime, benefited hires on a site entitled NeoGov, which hosts over 600 courses to support professional development.

 

City of Kent Perks: 

The City of Kent offers many perks, including public transport dollars, sporting event ticket giveaways, live theater discounts, gym access, and more!

 

Community Service: 

Serving our committee is at the heart of why we exist as an organization. The City engages in programs such as Holiday Adopt a Family, the local School Supply Drive, Kent Food Bank, Kent Meridian Police Science Class, Kent Parks and Rec Sponsorship, Valley Retired Police Dogs Association, Camp Fee Sponsorship, Drug Free Coalition and so many more.

 

Company-Wide Events: 

We connect as an entire organization throughout the year. We celebrate our Employee of the Year at an annual breakfast in the winter, and our Mayor hosts a special BBQ in the summer for all staff. In the fall, we host a very lively event in honor of a local charity and our staff, complete with a Chili Cookoff, Game Show, and Silent Auction.
