Administration

The Mayor’s Office is the executive administrative department for the City of Kent, and oversees the functions of all other City departments, staff, services, and programs. The Communications Division is part of the mayor’s administrative executive staff and is responsible for managing the City’s official communications across all platforms and networks, including all City departments and the mayor’s agenda and policy goals.

Clerk’s Office 

The City Clerk’s Office is also part of the Mayor’s administrative executive staff and is responsible for managing the official records of the City, coordinating, and responding to requests for public records, managing elections, and ensures the proper preparation, distribution and retention of City Council and Council Committee agendas and minutes

Economic & Community Development

The Economic & Community Development department provides high-level assistance and service to the development and business communities to encourage investment and prosperity through industry diversification, business recruitment, expansion retention and property development.
They work closely with business to identify solutions to problems that will enhance economic growth opportunities and encourage thriving business centers through adaptive and forward-thinking policies and land use decisions.

Finance

The Finance Department serves both internal and external customers by providing a broad range of services and information. Core operational services include cash receipting, meter reading, utility billing, administering city-imposed taxes, business licensing, general ledger, payroll, investing, debt service, accounts payable and accounts receivable.  The Finance Department is also responsible for accounting, financial reporting, and the development of the biennial budget.

Human Resources

The Human Resources Department serves City employees, who then in turn can serve the Kent community.  Our scope of work includes Recruiting, Benefits, Risk, oversight of Classifications, Compensation and our City’s Union Relations and Investigations.  HR is also focused on leading Lean Initiatives to support efficiencies within the City organization. 

Information Technology (IT)

IT provides strategic technology vision, leadership and oversight of Kent's technology infrastructure and services. Core activities are conducted across four primary functions: Infrastructure and Security Operations, Customer Service Operations, Applications Development, and Project Management.

Law

The Law Department is an internal service department that provides legal services to all other departments of the City as well as to the Mayor, the City Council, and the City’s various boards and commissions.  In addition, the Law Department prosecutes all misdemeanor criminal offenses and infractions that occur within the City.  

Municipal Court

The Municipal Court has jurisdiction over all criminal misdemeanor and gross misdemeanor violations of City ordinances, as well as traffic, camera enforcement, parking and nontraffic civil infractions arising under City ordinances. They process all cases filed according to state law and court rules and also monitor compliance with probation sentencing.

Parks, Recreation & Community Services

The Parks, Recreation and Community Services Department designs, builds and maintains parks, trails and greenspace with guidance from the Parks and Recreation Commission. They also provide public recreation, events, and cultural programs with guidance from the Arts Commission.

Police

The Kent Police Department (KPD) is the municipal law enforcement agency of Kent, composed of officers and civilians who work together to enforce laws and care for their neighbors, businesses, and visitors. The men and women of Kent PD are dedicated to building public trust and legitimacy within our community through open communication and transparency with those we serve.

Public Works

The Kent Public Works Department is responsible for the design, construction and maintenance of the City’s infrastructure systems related to transportation, water, sewer, drainage, and solid waste. These systems focus on transportation mobility, water for domestic use and fire protection, surface water quality and drainage, wastewater collection and transmission, solid waste, recycling, yard waste collection and disposal, and land survey, GIS, and fleet services.
