Be a Responsible Driver

The Kent Police Department Traffic Unit consists of six officers and one sergeant.

Kent Police Department Traffic Officers provide a full range of traffic related services. Enforcement of the Motor Vehicle Traffic Code is accomplished using traffic enforcement vehicles. Investigation of routine traffic collisions is the responsibility of all officers within the division. The Collision Analysis Response Squad (CARS) investigates serious traffic collisions or other unusual traffic events. This squad is comprised of highly trained and experienced collision investigators. The Kent Police Traffic Division is also responsible for the safe and effective movement of dignitaries and other special events in the City. In this function they are often called upon to provide such protection and services within the City, as well as assisting other law enforcement agencies from around the area.

The Traffic Unit works closely with the City Traffic Engineering/Transportation office, and the Community Education Unit. Volunteers In Police Service (VIPS) assist the traffic division with disabled parking enforcement and speed monitoring with the radar trailer. This team effort provides safer roads and highways for Kent residents and the thousands of commuters who drive through Kent each day.

The mission of the Kent Police Department Traffic Division is to "promote a safe environment for the motoring public".
