Mandatory garbage service
Garbage service is a mandatory requirement by Kent City Code 7.03 which states that all persons and property shall be subject to and responsible for the minimum level of garbage service, whether or not such persons and property use the service.
The code was adopted in the mid-1980’s, primarily to minimize illegal dumping and littering and to minimize the costs for collection services, providing equal cost distribution of the recycling and solid waste management among all residents. In addition, as customers, residents are able to participate in curbside recycling and yard and food waste collection and a number of special curbside collection programs at no additional cost.
Along with the convenient gray garbage cart, customers will also receive a blue recycling cart and a green yard and food waste cart in a choice of sizes at no additional charge. These are currently collected every other week.
After an extensive bid process, the city selected one contractor, Allied Waste, to get the best price for the community. If you do not currently subscribe to garbage service, please contact Allied Waste at 206-682-9735. They will be happy to assist you in selecting the service level to meet your household’s needs.
