Kent traffic information radio 1650 AM
The city's Transportation Engineering group has begun traffic broadcasts at 1650 AM, informing drivers and residents about construction and other issues on Kent's roads.
Traffic engineers will set up signs for traffic approaching work zones, advising them to tune their radios to 1650. For drivers that use Kent's arterials often, they advise using a pre-set station - either checking the broadcast periodically, or being ready to tune in when it appears there may be construction ahead.
Broadcasting from the Centennial Center in downtown Kent, the station has a range of about four miles - from 132nd Avenue to Pacific Highway, and 180th Street to downtown Auburn.
The station's purpose is to encourage drivers to seek alternate routes. The broadcast is updated when conditions change or in advance of major events that affect traffic movements. While it won't give specific detours, it will be very useful to those who are familiar with the area and trying to choose the best current route.
