Water leak adjustment policy

Ordinance #3486

City Council has authorized "A single adjustment or credit of 50% of charges exceeding a single month's average consumption caused by leak or broken water pipe on private property between the City's water meter and the structure."

If an adjustment is granted, it is subject to the right of access and inspection by a representative of the City. This is a one-time-only, once-in-a-lifetime adjustment.

Will the City notify me if they notice high water usage?

Yes, we monitor and audit water consumption.  If we notice an unusually high amount of water used during the billing cycle, then we may send you a letter to alert you of a possible leak as a courtesy.

Is the City responsible for fixing leaks?

The City's responsibility ends on the customer's side of the water meter. The customer is responsible from the meter to the house including plumbing inside of the house. The City maintains the water meter and meter box. It is the customer's responsibility to keep the meter box accessible for meter reading. If you discover that you have a leak, you may qualify for an adjustment on your billing.

What should I do if I see a fire hydrant leaking?
