City of Kent to welcome new chief administrative officer and finance director with a public reception Tuesday, August 19
KENT, Wash. – August 1, 2014 - The city of Kent, along with the Kent Chamber of Commerce and the Kent Downtown Partnership invite the public to a reception welcoming the city’s new Chief Administrative Officer, Derek Matheson and Finance Director, Aaron BeMiller to the Kent community.
The reception will be held Tuesday, August 19, from 6 – 7 p.m. in the lobby of Kent City Hall, 220 4th Ave. S. in Kent.
Kent Mayor Suzette Cooke announced both appointments last month.
Formerly the budget and finance director/county treasurer for Clatsop County, Oregon, BeMiller started in Kent July 24. He oversees the city’s financial operations including a 33-employee department.
Prior to this role, BeMiller was the Pierce County budget manager for six years. He has also worked with the cities of Seattle and Renton, including as a financial analyst for Seattle Center. BeMiller has a B.A. from Western Washington University and a M.P.A. from Seattle University.
Derek Matheson, formerly the city manager for the city of Covington, will begin on August 11.
As Kent’s CAO, Matheson will be responsible for virtually all of city’s day-to-day operations including economic development, finance, human resources, parks, police and six other departments.
Prior to Covington, Matheson was the assistant and interim city manager for the city of Federal Way. He has a B.A. and a M.P.A. from the University of Washington.
Michelle Wilmot, Kent Community and Public Affairs
