Mill Creek Relocation/Restoration – James Street to Kent Memorial Park

Project Description:

This project is part of the City of Kent’s Drainage Master Plan and also part of the Valley Creek Channel Reestablishment Project. The goals of the Drainage Master Plan are to reduce flood risks, improve water quality, enhance fish passage and in stream/riparian habitats, and efficiently serve planned growth. The planned improvements to Mill Creek are located north of James Street and east of Kent Memorial Park.






Current Plans are Considering:

  • Diversion of Mill Creek away from homes and into nearby wetland property to increase flood storage and reduce the risk of flood damage to surrounding properties
  • Installation of native plants, trees, and shrubs to improve wetland and stream habitat
  • Addition of a nature trail and access point for passive recreational and educational opportunities

Preliminary plans are under design and permits will be submitted in 2016.
