Target Zero
Target Zero strategies focus on the four "E's": Engineering, Enforcement, Education, and Emergency Medical Services. Kent Police sets local and county wide interventions to address local Target Zero priority areas and works to change driver and occupant behavior for safer communities through education and enforcement in King County.
Local traffic safety priorities:
Priority 1 (involved in 40% or more of all King County traffic fatalities*)
- Impaired drivers
- Speeding
Priority 2 (involved in 20 to 39.9% of all King County traffic fatalities*)
- Young drivers (age 16 to 25 years old)
- Unrestrained passenger vehicle occupants
- Pedestrians
- Distracted driving
Priority 3 (involved in 10 to 19.9% of all King County traffic fatalities*)
- Unlicensed drivers
- Motorcyclists
*based on 2006-2010 data from the Fatality Analysis Reporting System (FARS)
