Our goal is to provide Kent's citizens with parks that are clean, safe and appealing. We take pride in our work and hope that you and your family will enjoy the beauty of the 1,356 acres of parks, trails and open space in Kent.
In addition to maintaining Kent's parks, the Parks and Open Space Division supports other divisions within the Parks & Recreation department. We provide supplies & equipment and assist with special events. We also prepare for soccer, baseball and softball league play and tournaments by providing mowed fields with dragged and lined infields, clean restrooms and adequate seating. We also maintain and plant street trees.
We are especially proud of three parks that are among the finest baseball, softball and soccer facilities in Washington State. Kent Memorial Park, featuring a beautifully groomed grass infield, is home to Parks Department Youth Leagues, Kent School District teams, WIAA playoffs, Senior Babe Ruth baseball and American Legion baseball. Russell Road Park was honored with the "Outstanding Park in Washington State" award from the National Softball Association. Wilson Playfields features two synthetic turf soccer fields. The City of Kent was named "Sportstown, Washington" by Sports Illustrated and the National Recreation and Parks Association in November 2003.
Parks Operations staff are busy with a variety of projects from life cycle improvements to park beautification, but we always have time for questions or comments from Kent's citizens. Please feel free to let us know how we're doing - see below. We appreciate it!
