Economic Development

Kent is the sixth largest city in Washington with a population of 118,200. A culturally rich destination, Kent features captivating neighborhoods, award-winning parks, exceptional school districts and nationally accredited police and fire departments. In recent years, Kent has experienced impressive economic growth, establishing itself as a force in the Puget Sound Region. The Kent Valley is the fourth-largest warehouse and distribution center in the Unites States and the second largest manufacturing center on the West Coast.  Some of the region's most distinguished companies call Kent home, such as, Boeing Space and Defense, Flow International, REI, Oberto Sausage Co., Blue Origin Aerospace Company, Tazo Tea and Starbucks Coffee's roasting plant.

Over 4,500 businesses have realized that Kent is an ideal location for their businesses.  Kent is closely linked to major highways, Sea-Tac International Airport, and equidistant from both Ports of Tacoma and Seattle.  These, along with Kent's affordable land and low development costs, make Kent an attractive location for any business.

Employers will benefit from a diverse and well-educated workforce throughout the Puget Sound Region with experience in the Aerospace, Advanced Manufacturing, Clean Technology, Marine, Professional Services, and Service industries.  Kent businesses and residents have access to quality education, both through our award winning Kent School District and through Green River Community College's which is a two-year public college that offers degrees and certificates in academic, professional and technical programs.
